You have QTAKE Virtual Dongle questions and I have answers.
QTAKE 1.6 support and module rentals are coming to an end! I am sure you have heard the news and seen the emails but there are still questions.
Q. Does this mean that you can no longer rent short term 1.6x modules after Feb 2nd 2026?
A. Yes.
Q, So now what if I need to add a module to my existing Permanent dongle license?
A. You must first convert your current dongle license to a Virtual Dongle license.
Q. What if I prefer to keep my Permanent Dongle?
A. It’s up to you there is no requirement to virtualize your dongle but you can only use the current licenses that you own and if you need another module like x4 or stream then you would have to rent the full Pro License for that period of time without any credit for your existing license.
Q. Is there a deadline to Virtualize my Dongle?
A. NO. You can always virtualize your dongle at a later time but we suggest that you do it well before you are ever going to want to rent a module with credit for your license.
Q. Going forward, how can I add modules to my virtual license?
A. To add a module after Feb 2nd 2026 you will need to use QTAKE PRO SOFTWARE and rent the Pro UPGRADE Module on the QTAKE rental shop. Renting the PRO UPGRADE Module allows you to use the CURRENT QTAKE Pro software with the modules present in your permanent dongle license. If you need to add a module such as STREAM or X4 you can rent those. For example if you own HDX2 and need to rent STREAM then you will need to go to the shop and rent the PRO UPGRADE (currently $70 per day/ $210 per week) plus the stream module. ($29/day. 97/ week) total up upgrade to STREAM with 1.6x licence ($99/ day 297/ week) This is demonstrated very well in the video at the bottom of this page.
Q. What if I just want to Upgrade to Qtake Pro for the full year or for 3 years?
A. You can purchase a 1 year or 3 year upgrade to Qtake Pro with significant savings over users that did not purchase the permanent 1.6x license. $2800 for the year or $7000 for years.
Q, How does this Virtual Dongle thing work?
A . To use your virtual license you go to the QTAKE Rental Shop and you “rent” it just like rentals before. You select the modules you want , the machine or dummy dongle to assign it to. The duration up to 90 days, then you add to cart and you will see that the price of the “rental” will be $0.00 assuming you have selected only modules that you own in your license pool.
Q. What do I need to do to virtualize my dongle?
A. Send your dongle to Nebtek. 3007 West Temple Suite K South Salt Lake , Utah 84115 or arrange with us to drop it off at our LA office. After NEBTEK receives your dongle we let QTAKE know that it’s in our possession and they make it active in your RENTAL SHOP LICENSE POOL within 24-48 hours (often sooner) You can now use the rental shop to ”rent” your license license for up to 90 days at a time. You can assign it to a QTAKE machine on your rental shop account or alternatively you may assign it to a Dummy Dongle. Email us the tracking information.
Q. Should I insure the shipment of the dongle?
A. Yes. It’s like sending cash!
Q. Why is my license only available for 90 days at a time?
A. This is to protect your permanent license. If it is assigned to a machine that is lost or stolen or the hard drive crashes and has to be replaced the license is only lost for the period of time that it was assigned to that machine.
Q. What is the advantage of a Dummy Dongle?
A. A “Dummy Dongle” is available for purchase. The dummy dongle can be registered as a “Machine” in the QTAKE rental shop. You can move the Dongle to any machine with it’s accompanying License file for greater flexibility.
